Lesions of the oral mucosa are a common symptom, mostly in outpatient practice. Oral lesions in the infant in a large percentage of cases can be a non-specific symptom of many diseases, therefore the range of differential diagnosis is extremely wide and their diagnosis can be challenging. It is important for doctors to be aware of these conditions to avoid over-diagnosis and over-treatment. In the present article, we present a clinical case of an infant with Bednar’s aphthae, also known as “ulcera pterygoidea. They are common, spontaneously regressing, shallow and symmetrical palatal ulcers that usually appear along the posterior border of the hard palate in newborns and infants, most commonly between 2 days and 6 weeks of age.
