The international scientific achievements in revealing the etiopathogenesis and clinical course of psoriatic disease are presented, which prove that psoriasis is completely immune-mediated. The complex symptomatology of the achievements is shown – psoriatic arthritis (PsA), cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndromes. Knowledge of the immunological mechanism of action of biological agents for the treatment of psoriasis helps in choosing the most appropriate biological agent for each patient. The authors highlight the good clinical experience of the drug secukinumab, an inhibitor of interleukin-17A (IL-17A), which has been proven in recent years as a highly effective and targeted treatment. The reasons why hundreds of psoriasis patients remain far from modern biological treatments for psoriasis are highlighted – the lack of awareness among dermatologists and general practitioners (GPs), lack of good communication between the two professional communities at the administrative and scientific level. Interdisciplinary activities are recommended to ensure that psoriasis patients receive professional advice and access to modern biological treatment.
