Overweight and obesity are problems of modern society, which lead to the development of chronic socially significant diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus, oncological, neurodegenerative. Obesity is associated with the maintenance of chronic low-grade inflammation, a process that disrupts normal communication between peripheral organs and the brain, as well as homeostasis in the body. The role of the gut microbiome and intestinal dysbiosis in obesity, and in the persistence of the inflammatory process is also discussed. Maintaining normal body weight and preventing intestinal dysbiosis would contribute to reducing the frequency of cardiometabolic disorders and the occurrence of neurodegenerative diseases.
Key words: adipose tissue, obesity, chronic low-grade inflammation, gut microbiome
