Myopia (nearsightedness) is a refractive error in which distant objects appear blurred because the optical focus falls in front of the retina. In childhood, the most common form is axial myopia, characterized by elongation of the eyeball. This transforms myopia from a simple refractive error into a potential risk factor for future eye complications. Modern myopia control is aimed not only at vision correction, but also at slowing axial elongation through optical, pharmacological, and behavioral interventions.
