Cardio-oncology is a rapidly developing multidisciplinary field focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular complications induced by anti-cancer therapy. As survival of cancer patients increases, the importance of cardiotoxicity is increasing. This article reviews the basic principles of cardio-oncology assessment, risk scores, necessary investigations and the role of biomarkers and echocardiography in patients undergoing chemotherapy, including regimens such as FAC.
