Atopic dermatitis is the most common inflammatory dermatosis. Its pathogenesis and immunological features stay still obscured, provoking enormous scientific attention. Recent works show correlation between molecular mechanisms and genetic variations that define specific disease subtypes and evoke target therapeutic approaches. The need of more precise classification based on these molecular-immunologic characteristics emerge to verify specific endotypes with distinct mechanistic pathways. Herein, we enlighten these new scientific efforts.
Key words: atopic dermatitis, intrinsic, extrinsic, endotypes
