The most common surgical intervention worldwide is the cataract surgery. The gold standard for cataract surgery is phacoemulsification with intraocular implantation (IOL). There is a wide range of IOLs. Patients find it difficult to navigate such a wide range of implants. It requires a desire to receive information, time and preparation on the part of the patient. In this process, the GP is an independent expert, preparing the patient for the process. And in order to give an adequate opinion and advice, the GP must be familiar with current trends and options for IOL. Each of the types of IOL = monofocal, multifocal, EDOF, hydrophilic, hydrophobic, lenses for implantation in the sac, in the sulcus, anterior chamber and scleral; has its own specificity and application.
Key words: intraocular lenses, IOL, cataract, phacoemulsification, monofocal lenses, multifocal lenses, EDOF, hydrophobic lenses, hydrophilic lenses.
