Fuchs endothelial dystrophy is the most common inherited corneal disease, occurring more often in women and manifesting in the 5th-6th decade. It is characterized by the appearance of cornea guttata in the central parts of the cornea, which increase in number and size. This leads to a decrease in the number of endothelial cells, the entry of anterior chamber fluid into the cornea, edema and a decrease in visual acuity. Cataract is the most common cause of reversible blindness worldwide. The only method of treatment is operative. Phacoemulsification is a major operative method that is accompanied by endothelial cell loss. Knowledge of both diseases is essential to the final outcome of cataract surgery.

Key words: Fuchs endothelial dystrophy, Cataract, Phacoemulsification
