In recent years, ophthalmologists have been increasingly entering the field of aesthetic medicine, thanks to their in-depth knowledge of the anatomy and function of the periorbital area. They possess unique skills for diagnosing and treating delicate structural changes around the eyes – a region that demands exceptional precision.
Common issues such as dark circles, ptosis, dermatochalasis, and wrinkles can be successfully addressed through minimally invasive procedures (botulinum toxin, fillers, PRP, device-based methods) or surgical interventions such as blepharoplasty and brow lift. Strict adherence to medical indications, awareness of contraindications and risks, as well as multidisciplinary collaboration with dermatologists and plastic surgeons ensure safety and optimal outcomes. In an era of growing demand for comprehensive care, ophthalmologists have the opportunity to expand their practice and meet patients’ increasing expectations from both aesthetic and functional perspectives.
Key words: aesthetics, periorbital area, minimally invasive procedures, surgical interventions, safety
