This review provides synthesized and critical information on the administration of live attenuated nasal influenza vaccines (LAIV) in children. The mechanism of action, efficacy and effectiveness in clinical and real-world settings, safety, contraindications, instructions for use and comparative data with inactivated vaccines are discussed. Emphasis is placed on evidence from randomized clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as well as guidelines from international health organizations.
