The placement of a urethral balloon catheter is a routine hospital procedure performed by various medical professionals, both in emergency and elective settings. Successful catheter placement relies entirely on two fundamental surgical principles: sterility and atraumatic technique. Adherence to these principles significantly reduces the risk of nosocomial infections, for which catheterization is a common cause. Placing a urethral catheter in men requires particular care due to specific anatomical features.
The publication presents some recommendations for successful catheterization in men.
