Myopia is a common eye condition and is recognized as an important public health problem worldwide. A serious concern with myopia is its progression to high myopia. It carries high risks of irreversible complications leading to blindness, such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, and myopic maculopathy. The number of people with myopia in 2020 is about 2.6 billion worldwide, expected to increase to 4.9 billion by 2050. The article describes the risk factors, diagnosis and control of the progression of myopia in childhood.
