Chronic rhinitis is a symptomatic inflammation of the nasal mucosa, leading to obstruction, rhinorrea (posterior or anterior), sneezing, nasal or occular itching. In order to be defined as chronic, at least two rhinitis symptoms have to persist for at least an hour a day, for minimum 12 weeks a year. According to the etiology, chronic rhinitis can be allergic, infectious or nonallergic. The latter is of a particular clinical interest due to the various pathogenic mechanisms as well as the high prevalence of non allergic rhinitis.
Key words: non allergic rhinitis, phenotypes, diagnosis, treatment
