Pneumonia is the most common disease of the lower respiratory tract in children. An epidemiological study conducted by the World Health Association shows that the incidence of community-acquired pneumonia among children is about 0.18 episodes per child. According to other studies, 2 out of 100 children suffer from pneumonia. Generally speaking, pneumonia is an inflammation of the lower part of the respiratory tract, which occurs with particular severity due to a violation of the main respiratory functions of the lung – the gas exchange function, limiting the volume of the infiltrate; the influence of microbial colonization. All these factors lead to a severe disease, which proceeds with the characteristic features – fatigue, excruciating cough, high fever to the point of complete adynamia. In children, the disease is especially clearly visible in these stages of the most serious manifestation. Acute viral infections are the main predisposing factors.
