Coughing is a powerful physiological mechanism for clearing the respiratory tract of foreign substances and excess secretions. It is a reflex response as a result of irritation of certain receptors in the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. Anamnesis data on the character of the cough, its duration and frequency of occurrence can be the first guidelines in the differential diagnosis. Knowing the reasons for the appearance of cough and its characteristics in children determine the choice of the therapeutic approach.
