Acute respiratory infections are the most common diseases in childhood. Lower respiratory tract infections account for 5-20% of all respiratory diseases, with up to 75% of childhood pneumonias caused by viral infections, 15% by bacterial pathogens, and 10% by different etiologies (mycoplasma, rickettsiae, parasites, fungal agents). In countries with high economic development, bacterial pathogens are present in a higher percentage. Therapy consists of antimicrobial drugs (causal) and symptomatic therapy. Given the nature and importance of respiratory infections to morbidity and mortality in children, we will review here how to treat respiratory tract infections.
