Optic neuritis is an inflammatory optic nerve disease that affects young people and may be due to systemic diseases, infectious, immunological, toxic or other causes. In a large percentage of cases, optic neuritis is the first manifestation of multiple sclerosis. Typical and atypical forms are observed in the clinical manifestation with the main symptoms of reduced visual acuity, eye movement pain and impaired color vision. The current article describes the characteristic features of the disease, diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines.
