Therapeutic behavior in women with vulvovaginal candidiasis and alcohol abuse

Introduction: More than 70% of the women have VVС at least once in their life. At the same time 32% of the women all over the world consume alcohol daily. Occurrence of acute and chronicle states against the backdrop of alcohol abuse and dependence imposes a new look at the therapeutic approach on these patients. Aim: A combined therapeutic approach for treatment of women with VVС and alcohol abuse and dependence to be presented. Materials and methods: For the purpose of the present development an analysis for literary sources is done. Results: The acute and chronicle VVС are influenced favorably form the local annex of antimycotic preparations. In the therapy and in prevention of relapses the leading role is played by the long term courses with low doses of azoles preparations in combination with physiotherapy, balneotherapy and medical goods for balancing the vagina’s pH. Discussion: The combined application of Gino-pevaryl pessaries 150mg for acute VVK and 50mg for chronically- recurrent VVС, Laktobor intimate gel and methods of physiotherapy are suitable therapeutic approach for treatment and prevention of relapses. At the same time the hepatic metabolism among the alcohol-compromised women is avoided. Conclusion: Knowing of the main characteristics of VVK and its treatment in women with alcohol abuse and/or accompanying hepatic pathology is important for the everyday clinical practice.
