Lyme disease is one of the most commonly observed thick-borne bacterial infections. It is caused by spirochetes belonging to Borrelia burgdorferi. The disease goes through several different stages, characterized by a variety of cutaneous manifestations, such as erythema chronicum migrans being the most typical lesion observed early on and acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans representing a late manifestation. Diagnosis is based on the clinical presentation, serological testing and also histopathology, when necessary. Early recognition of the disease and timely initiation of therapy is crucial for the disease improvement.
