Anisocoria is the visible without special optics difference in the size of the pupils between the two eyes in humans. It occurs in both children and adults, but with certain peculiarities in childhood. Examining the pupil and knowing its pathology is important not only for the ophthalmologist. Pathological anisocoria can be due to both an ocular cause and an extraocular cause or systemic disease, trauma, and remain undiagnosed in a timely manner.
The article presents brief information on the development and growth of the pupil in children, an overview of the main causes of anisocoria, clinical forms, differential diagnosis, evolution, the need for additional consultations, research and follow-up of the child.
