Advances in surgical techniques and in the design of intraocular lenses (IOLs) have made cataract surgery a refractive procedure.
Knowing the different characteristics of the types of IOLs is of great importance for the correct choice of lens for the needs of each patient. In this article we present the latest type of intraocular lens – with extended depth of focus (EDOF). We look through the mechanism of action, the types of EDOF lenses and the quality of postoperative distance, intermediate and near vision, contrast sensitivity, the presence of dysphotopsia and ocular pathology in which these intraocular lenses can be implanted.
The aim of this article is to acquaint general practitioner doctors with innovations in the field of intraocular lenses those with extended depth of focus.
