Iliev, V.
USHATO “Prof. Ivan Chernozemski”- Sofia

During the cold seasons the most common complains of patients are running and stuffed nose often accompanied with sneezing. This is usually caused by an inflammation in the nasal (paranasal) cavity and is knows as rhinitis (rhinosinuitis). Infectious rhinitis is usually self-limiting disease that requires symptomatic treatment only. An attempt for etiological treatment is made if bacterial origin is suspected or confirmed. To avoid the adverse effects of systemic antibiotics an approach with topical ones (as eye drops) is very often chosen. In many cases the result is unsatisfying due to factors related to anatomical and physiological characteristics of the nasal mucosa and the characteristics of the medicinal product. There is no evidence for the efficacy of this treatment approach and published data shows controversial results.
