Allergic rhinitis is an IgE-mediated inflammatory disease of the nasal mucosa with a high prevalence in the general population. Although traditionally considered a condition of younger individuals, it remains clinically significant in elderly. The anatomical and physiological characteristics of this age group, functional features, immunological changes, and comorbidities complicate therapy in these patients. This review presents the current understanding of therapeutic approaches for managing allergic rhinitis in elderly patients. It summarizes the preferred drug classes as well as those associated with health risks.
Key words: allergic rhinitis, age, treatment
