People in advanced and old age suffer frequently from multiple diseases, as well as chronic kidney diseases. The aim of prophylaxis and treatment is to reduce the progression of renal injuries, cardiovascular risk and mortality. This could be achieved by optimal for age and comorbidities dietary regimen, prevention of protein-energy malnutrition, use of medications that are appropriate for the individual characteristics of the aging organism, considering the possible risks, side effects and nephrotoxicity of the treatment. An individual approach to treating blood pressure and CKD complications is important, as well as managing acute and chronic inflammatory processes that lead to deterioration of renal function and increased mortality.
Key words: arterial hypertension in elderly, chronic kidney disease complications, diet in CKD, malnutrition in elderly
