Hypertensive complications accompany 3-10% of all pregnancies. Hypertension is the most common first sign of preeclampsia which is one of the main causes of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. It is associated with fetal growth restriction, low birth weight, preterm birth and respiratory distress syndrome. Preterm birth occurs in half of women with severe preeclampsia. According to the course severity preeclampsia can be mild, moderate and severe. Severe preeclampsia is subject of immediate hospitalization and intensive care.
