Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is a rare and heterogeneous group of autoantibody-mediated subepidermal blistering diseases that are characterized by a chronic course and predominant mucous membrane involvement resulting in scarring. The autoantibodies target structural components of the basal membrane. The clinical presentation of MMP may vary from mild or moderate gingivitis to severe muco-cutaneous involvement causing permanent functional loss and important patients’ disabling.
