The loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences for a child, and GPs play a key role in supporting families during these times. The article emphasizes the importance of understanding the stages of grief, attachment theory and age differences in making sense of death. GPs can provide a safe space for conversations, help parents understand children‘s reactions, encourage symbolic rituals to cope with the loss and observe physical and emotional manifestations. If necessary, they can refer families to specialists and support the creation of a stable and predictable environment for children. Long-term monitoring is key to minimizing future serious crises.

Key words: grief in children, attachment theory, stages of grief, emotional support, bodily manifestations, symbolic rituals, emotional resilience, long-term observation
