Relationship between type 2 diabetes and vitamin d levels – surrent aspects

In the last decade, there has been an increasing interest in fat-soluble vitamin D in connection with its many effects and the prevalence of low levels in the population. Its influence on calcium-phosphorus metabolism is known, but various studies worldwide shed light on its protective role in endocrine, malignant, inflammatory diseases and autoimmune disorders. In recent years, the role of vitamin D in the development and control of type 2 diabetes has been intensively studied (2). The topicality and importance of the topic is determined by the fact that type 2 diabetes is one of the most progressively growing chronic diseases of the century. It is a risk factor for the development of debilitating complications. The aim of the present study is to study the role of vitamin D in the pathogenetic processes of diabetic patients, the importance of its levels for the control of diabetes mellitus and prevention of the complications of the disease. After the study, the following conclusions were reached: when supplementing with vitamin D, glycemic control, insulin resistance and lipid profile are improved in patients, the risk of various complications related to the disease is reduced, especially in diabetics in old age, the quality of life is improved of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
