Gastroschisis (or laparoschisis) is a congenital defect of the anterior abdominal wall covering all its layers. It is most often between 2 and 4 cm in size and is located to the right of the umbilical cord, with the latter remaining unaffected. Through the defect, internal organs herniate into the amniotic fluid without being covered by a sac or membrane. The presented clinical case is a good example of the importance of regular pregnancy follow-up, as well as the excellent collaboration between treatment teams! This allowed for maximally adequate behavior that ensured optimal treatment results.
