Metabolic DysfunctionAssociated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. The growing prevalence of metabolic syndrome, obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus makes MASLD a major global health problem. Although liver biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosis and staging, its invasive nature has led to the development of multiple noninvasive diagnostic approaches. This review discusses current aspects of screening and the role of noninvasive biomarkers in MASLD, including serum indices (FIB4, APRI, NAFLD Fibrosis Score), molecular markers such as cytokeratin18 and imaging techniques such as ultrasound elastography.
Key words: MASLD, MASH, liver fibrosis, noninvasive biomarkers, FIB4, elastography
