Issue 1/2024

Gaidarova, R.
Psychiatrist, UMBAL „Georgi Stranski” – Pleven

Dementing conditions should be perceived as diseases with a multifactorial etiology, in which biological and neurological factors affecting cognition are involved. In recent years, they are increasing, they are severe, they are difficult to treat and have a poor prognosis, although there has been progress in clarifying the etiology and pathogenesis of atrophic processes, and with the introduction of a new class of drugs, a delay in the course of the disease process has been achieved. The clinical picture is diverse with the presence of various psychopathological syndromes that can be temporarily stationed, but their natural course is to progress to the complete disintegration of the personality (1). These conditions pose questions not only of medical, but also of psychological and social importance, with a view to achieving long-term family integration of the patient – a necessary condition for slowing down his personal degradation.

Key words: atrophy, aphasia, marasmus, decline
