Mixed dementia is one of the most common in the population, and especially in people over the age of 65. It most often concerns the simultaneous course of Alzheimer‘s disease (AD) and cerebrovascular disease (CVD). These two diseases have similar risk factors (vascular and non-vascular) that persist even after the development of cognitive disorders. The clinical picture varies among patients, but usually includes cognitive impairment, mental and personality changes, and focal neurological signs. Patient behavior should be complex, individualized and holistic. It includes both control of modifiable risk factors and a range of non-medical techniques. The goal of this approach is a maximally high level of cognitive functioning and quality of life for the patient and his family.

Key words: mixed dementia, risk factors, psycho-bio-social approach.
