Purpose: To demonstrate the method of eyeball sparing surgery in perforating trauma with tissue loss.
Methods: We demonstrate patients with corneal and double perforating wounds of eyeball, as a result of a gunshot. The fibrin glue was made of autologous blood, after extraction of its fibrinogen. The tissue sealant was used in all demonstrated patients in order to restore the integrity of the eyeball.
Resuts: Sufficient adaptation of the wound was achieved. Patients with corneal wounds received good visual recovery, but double perforated eyes had severe traumatic retinopathy and even loss of retina in some quadrants. For the follow-up of 6 months to 5 years, nobody lost his eye. Aesthetically the eyeball remained with its full volume and mobility.
Conclusions: Autologous fibrin glue provides stable permanent occlusion after trauma with significant loss of tissue in posterior pole of the eyeball, where the place is impossible for sutures.
