Tinnitus is a sound that is perceived by the patient without an external source. Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of an acoustic wave outside the patient‘s body. It is a symptom of functional disorders of various types and localization. Objective tinnitus is due to mechanical body vibrations that are conducted to the inner ear. They can be heard by the patient and the examiner.
Subjective tinnitus is a sound perception that occurs without the participation of an acoustic signal from the external environment or from the patient‘s body. Its occurrence is a neurosensory perception of a phantom acoustic signal.
The patient reports tinnitus. It can be acute, with a sudden onset, or chronic with a duration of more than 3 months.
Treatment of this condition is quite difficult and not always successful.
