Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface. There are four main subgroups of coronaviruses known as alpha, beta, gamma and delta. Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses that cause disease in animals and humans. They often circulate among camels, cats and bats and can sometimes develop and infect humans. In humans, viruses can cause mild respiratory infections, such as the common cold, but can lead to serious illnesses, such as pneumonia. The most common viruses, which occur with almost the same clinical picture, development and outcome of the disease, are considered.
