Probiotic means „for life“ (from Latin pro-for and bios-life). Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when taken in adequate amounts, have a beneficial effect on the health of the recipient – they protect the gastrointestinal tract, support the functioning of the kidneys and liver, and detoxify the body. Probiotics are important for the production of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and some digestive enzymes. When probiotic bacteria are not enough, the immune system is exposed to more attacks from harmful microorganisms.
