The disease is a pathological condition of the penis, first described in 1742 by Francois Gigot de la Peyronie. Some authors indicate that it affects 0.5–3% of the male population. The etiology and pathogenesis of this disease have not been elucidated. It is believed that the disease occurs as a result of microtraumas, especially during sexual contact, inflammatory processes, autoimmune disease and collagenoses, infectious diseases, genetic factors and genetic predisposition, age changes, etc. One or more indurative plaques of different size and shape are palpated in different places on the penis. Plaque causes the penis to bend to varying degrees in its direction due to its inelasticity. Erection defects occur. In some patients, sexual intercourse becomes impossible. Different types of treatments are used. Conservative therapy includes oral and injectable agents. In addition, X-ray therapy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy and penile traction therapy are used. In surgical therapy, different techniques are applied and different grafting materials are used after partial or complete incision/excision of the fibrous plaque. Different types of grafts are used for corporoplasty, such as buccal mucosa graft, tunica vaginalis graft, etc. In some patients, a penile prosthesis is implanted. An experienced urologist, a well-specified preoperative situation, accurate and complete counseling of the patient regarding the postoperative consequences, and good postoperative care are of great and decisive importance for good results. Many factors must be considered before and after deciding on surgical treatment. Some of them are quite critical indications and do not allow compromises.
