The presence of chronic respiratory symptoms with recurrent pneumonia and chronic cough with purulent expectoration requires a diagnostic search for bronchiectasis and clarification of the underlying pathological processes. In contrast to conventional radiography of the lungs, CAT (computed axial tomography) with high resolution has a higher sensitivity and specificity in the imaging diagnosis of bronchiectasis. Bronchography is not routinely applied, but is necessary in case of an upcoming surgical intervention. The presence of bronchiectasis requires frequent courses of antibiotic treatment and deobstructive therapy with bronchial drainage. In case of failure of conventional treatment and frequent relapses, surgical treatment is also carried out according to indications.
