The prevalence of cardiometabolic disorders in both women and men has increased worldwide and is linked to a rise in obesity and associated clusters of other cardiometabolic risk factors such as hypertension, impaired glucose regulation and dyslipidemia. However the different types of cardiometabolic disorders seem to have different sex-specific appearance. But our knowledge of the underlying sex-associated mechanisms are still insufficient. New evidences suggest that sex hormones and sex-specific underlying molecular mechanisms influence glucose and lipid metabolisms, as well as cardiac energy metabolism and function. Here in this review are presented data which are emerging till now concerning the influence of the sex-associated cardiometabolic risk factors and their impact on the preclinical cardiac disease.
