The dermatophytic infections of the skin are among the most common dermatoses. They are distributed worldwide and affect all age groups. The causative agent are microscopic fungi, which depend on keratin for their development, and affect the corneal layer of the skin, the hair and the nails.
The nosological entities are named after the skin region that is affected. The diagnosis is easily made through microscopic and cultural methods. The treatment consists of the use of oral antifungal drugs, or classical or synthetic topical antifungals.
