Covid-19 is an infectious disease leading to cytokine storm, acute lung injury and respiratory distress syndrome. Probiotics are known to have anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antiviral and antioxidant properties. They provide protection against acute lung injury and respiratory distress syndrome caused by various pathogens. In addition to the proposed number of drugs to prevent or reduce the severity of the infection with Covid-19, there is evidence that probiotics can limit these disorders. Modulation of the gut microbiome by probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and postbiotics is a promising approach to improve the health of patients with COVID-19.
