Takotsubo is a reversible cardiomyopathy whose clinical presentation mimics acute coronary syndrome but without obstructive coronary disease. The clinical presentation includes chest pain, dyspnea, reversible ST-segment elevation on the electrocardiogram, and discrete elevation of troponin. Echocardiography detects disturbances in myocardial kinetics in the absence of obstructive coronary lesions. Treatment results in a rapid recovery of ventricular function, with only about 10 percent of cases experiencing relapses.
